Dr. Christopher Branson on Values-Based Leadership

During the recent conference "Exploring the Meta-Values of Authentic Leadership: Moral Literacy in Action", Christopher Branson (Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership at the St Patricks Campus (Melbourne) of the Australian Catholic University) sat down with us to discuss some of the themes of the conference. In this clip, he explains what he understands by 'authentic leadership' and why there is a growing need for 'moral literacy' in educational leaders.

During the recent conference "Exploring the Meta-Values of Authentic Leadership: Moral Literacy in Action", Paul Begley (Professor of Educational Leadership, Nipissing University) sat down with us to discuss some of the themes of the conference. In this clip, he explains what he understands by 'authentic leadership', why there is a growing need for 'moral literacy' in educational leaders, and why he focuses on 'sustainability' as an important meta-value.

During the recent conference "Exploring the Meta-Values of Authentic Leadership: Moral Literacy in Action", Charles Burford (Associate Professor of Leadership at the Australian Catholic University) sat down with us to discuss some of the themes of the conference. In this clip, he discusses differences in implementing a values-based model of leadership at religious institutions and at secular institutions.  One is more likely to find teachers already committed to what Burford refers to as a covenental approach (i.e., one based on commitments concerning the moral purpose of their work as educators) at religious institutions.  However, he claims that the values-based model of 'Leadership as a Moral Process' that is at the center of the Leaders Transforming Learners and Learning (LTLL) project does work at secular institutions as well.

Nancy Tuana on Ethics and the G-20

The recent G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh saw world leaders focusing on sound and sustainable measures for recovering from the global financial and economic crisis.  At the same time, Penn State Outreach asked academic leaders at Penn State to contribute to a series of reflections on the significance of the G-20 from various disciplinary perspectives.  Nancy Tuana, director of Penn State's Rock Ethics Institute, provides us with an argument that any attempt to address the goals of the G-20 must have ethics at it's core.
The 14th Annual Leadership and Ethics Conference, Exploring the Meta-Values of Authentic Leadership:Moral Literacy in Action, officially begins this evening at the Nittany Lion Inn.  The work of the conference, however, is already underway as many of its participants gather this morning and this afternoon for pre-conference workshops.  Those in attendance at this morning's workshop heard Charles Burford (Associate Professor in Educational Leadership at The Australian Catholic University) discuss the Leaders Transforming Learners and Learning Project (LTTL).  Following his presentation of the conceptual model involved in the project, Terri Patterson and Virginia Outred (Principal and Vice-Principal of St. Kieran's Catholic Primary School, Manley, NSW, Australia) shared their experiences implementing and expanding on this model in transforming the educational culture at one particular elementary school in Australia.
